Scotlands People now charging VAT
« on: Tuesday 01 November 16 14:13 GMT (UK) »
I can't see if this has been posted anywhere but, I last purchased credits at the begining of October.
I purchased 80 credits at a TOTAL of £20.

Today, I attemped to purchase more

30 credits is £7.50
40 credits  is £10
80 credits is £20 PLUS £4 VAT
160 credits is £40 PLUS £8 VAT

Am I going mad?
If I attempt to purchase 2 lots of 40 credits the total = £20 and there is NO VAT on checkout ?

This is what is posted on their website under "our charges"

Price and Payment
Prices can be found in our charges. All prices are in pounds sterling and inclusive of the current rate of Value added Tax (VAT) applied in the UK.

It clearly says that the prices are inclusive of VAT. I would check with them......obviously something isn't quite right

Hopefully they will come back to you with a suitable explanation. Especially when you can buy 2 x 40 credit without paying the extra £4!

Good luck

I know it is.

I don't particularly like the site since they changed it. I find it's harder to search through your previous viewed images and searches too.

Response from SP was a bit vague.
They didn't seem to be aware that VAT was being added and have fixed the issue.

"Next time, VAT will not be added to your purchase"

Just as well I didn't complete the purchase then Eh?

Looks like another cock-up from CACI. I'm sure it wasn't intentional.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
