If you go onto the home page of the link earlier, then click on DATABASE it will take you to a search page, type in George's name and brings up same info as Calverley Lad posted.

Did you also check all the Church Records on various pages? It can be quite time consuming to check everything.

The Calverley site shows:

George Ward aged 59 bur.24/7/1855 Pudsey All Saints Chapel and St. Lawrence - abode Wakefield

I wonder if after 1851 family moved to Wakefield where he died (death index shows a George Ward Sept.1855 Wakefield) and they then returned to Pudsey.   1851 Census shows no George Ward of that age living in Wakefield and the age of the above buried in Pudsey matches your man exactly.

Thanks Annette

I had a look through the Pudsey records and came across the same George. It looks like he is the only record but it feels iffy but I guess, as Sherlock Holmes would say, "once you have eliminated all other possibilities, what remains is the answer, no matter how unusual it is" (or something like that!).

This has been very helpful and thank-you everyone for your help and pointing me towards the Calverley database.

As yet we haven't managed to prove what my wife believed (that her relatives from Pudsey came over from Germany with the Moravians. I think the evidence is all to the contrary!).
