Trealaw Cemetery (Llethrddu)

All in plot N405

Burial number 3549 John Mitchell age 27 1891
Burial number 3667 Charles Mitchell age 14 mths 1891
Burial number 3949 Rose Mitchell age 9 days 1892

Seems Clara was pregnant when John died, so much tradegy

There was a family history dept at Treorchy library, but I think it is now held in Aberdare library, if you email the burial details and request the interment records, they used to send free via email. Not sure if still do, but worth a go for poss date of death, signature of plot owner etc.

Will have a look at the others in the morning.

I am very impressed, Cas. I had no idea about baby Rose - as you say, that is truly tragic. Clara remarried and went on to have another six children. It is so hard to imagine the lives that these people lived.

I have also realised that my grandfather on my Dad's side was buried in Trealaw Cemetery - his name at death was John Angus Hood and he died in 1936. I am waiting on a copy of his death certificate from GRO as his birth name was John Matthew O'Leary (born in Dublin in 1866), then he became John Matthew Webb when his mother remarried around 1871, and in the early 1900s he became John Angus Hood (no-one knows why!). He was interred on 26 April 1936 in grave number U182 at a depth of 7 feet.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Forgot to mention, on iPad unable to search for others in same plot with different surname, could on PC, but crashed and died.  So there maybe others related. Curious how the Brakes are buried in a plot that numbers before the Mitchells. George Brake died 5 yr after John Mitchell.

Also from the library I had electrol info for mine, as long as you have address and they are of voting age.

Good luck with info, let me know how you get on.

I wonder if Knoll Terrace had another name. This is from the Pontypridd Chronicle and Workman's News of 6th November 1891 - al the details fit your John

On Friday, a man by the name of John Mitchell, residing at 6, Club Row, Llwynpia, died instantly whilst engaged with his work as a labourer in Clydach Vale Yard. Mitchell was 27 years of age, and a native of Somersetshire. On the previous evening he was in a pleasant humour at home with his wife and three children, and on Friday morning left for his work equally as cheerful. However, in the afternoon he breathed his last quite unexpectedly and his sudden demise cast a gloom over the district. He was of a quiet disposition, and was a resident of Llwynpia for some years.

Thanks Mabel. That seems to be my John as he died on 30 Oct and the newspaper article is a week later. I was wondering that so many people were living at 6 Knoll Terrace but perhaps John and his family were just visiting his wife's parents on census night. That makes sense to me.

Thanks again Cas for the library tips. I have obtained the Mitchell burial records and now have a contact at the library and will follow up with him on the Brake family and also the electoral roles. Will let you know how I go ;)
