Northumberland Fusilliers to Royal West Kents?
« on: Thursday 10 November 16 19:58 GMT (UK) »
Am trying to pin down an ancestor via WW1 Medal Cards.
We know he served in the Tyneside Scottish, Northumberland Regt .
Is it possible that he was transferred to the Kents, presumably after the majority of his regiment were lost at the Somme?
The only medal card I can find has a name which could be him, in the Northmberlands and then the Kents.
I don't know enough about what happened to the remnants of his regiment/battalion after the Somme.

Yes, of course.
He is Joseph West.
I've mentioned him before in connection with other aspects of his history.
There is a medal card for J West who was first with the Northumberlands and then the Kents.
This could well be him.
His service number should match service in the 2nd Tyneside Scottish, 21st Northumberland.
I'm fairly sure that his service record does not exist. The medal card is a small thing but it would be good to link it to our man.

That is the card I had found.
Just wondering if the info on it matches what happened to men in the 21st Northumberlands.
Were some of them moved into the Kents? I don't know enough about the regiment's history to confirm this.
Also, would the numbers match the Tyneside Scottish, Northumberland Regt.?

His Medal Roll says he was previously in the 1/4th. NF & was in a batch of men transferred to various Batts. of the RWK Regt. First in the 10th. & finally the 7th.
It may have happened after the 1/4th. were disbanded in 1918.
