« on: Thursday 10 November 16 20:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone tell me where I can find a map that shows Green Bank Terrace, Stapleton, Bristol in 1875 please?

This is where the 11th child of my great grandparents was born and he died the following year.

My thanks to anyone who can help.

I prefer to use this URL: http://maps.bristol.gov.uk/knowyourplace/?maptype=js

Click on Addresses (LHS) and search for Greenbank Road.
Select the 1880 map from the RHS.

Greenbank Road runs through to Greenbank Cemetery.
There is a terrace of houses at the other end that might be Greenbank Terrace?

Greenbank Road isn't on the earlier 1874 or 1855 maps :-\

Hi Garrad

Yes, I did wonder if the terrace was part of Greenbank Road.  I see from the 1880 map that there is an unnamed road or alley running off the road to what looks like some houses at the end.  It has the number 1011 printed on it.  Perhaps that is the terrace.

I did spot that!
On the later 1900 map, this is Albert Street.
There is another road at the western end of Greenbank Road. On the 1900 map the road has been extended, and is called Belle Vue Road.

Unless someone comes up with something more definite, I'll keep that idea in mind.  I guess it's quite possible that some of these little alleys and byways were never named on maps but known about by the locals.

As I've said on a few other threads over the years . . .
a terrace needn't be the name of a whole street, but maybe just the name of a terrace of houses on the street?

I currently live in a named terrace on Circular Road.
Previously I also lived in a named terrace.
I think I have lived in named terraces on 2 or 3 other occasions, too!

Certainly, when I first moved to the Isle of Man, on my street were 3 or 4 named terraces ;D

This reminds me of the recent title of one of the many threads raised in the Common Road over the years -  it was titled "Is anyone else sick of being ignored" - I would have thought it was manners to thank all contributors of information, however small/helpful it might have been. Like many others I find it is rude when perhaps a few people have answered a request and only one gets thanked or recognition for the time spent trying to help.

Added - Noted that the original post was altered to show thanks.
