Jane Haliburton
« on: Saturday 12 November 16 04:12 GMT (UK) »
This is a two prong question (hopefully). My GGG Grandparents are Ralph and Jane Haliburton. The problem is with Jane and her maiden name.  I ordered the marriage certificate of their daughter Elizabeth to John O'Hara (my GG Grands) and it says Jane's maiden name is Mullholland. All the records I seem to be able to find are for a Jane Mulherron. So now I have no idea which is correct as I don't have any info on siblings if any to corroborate stories.  The other part of this is the handwriting. Is it even Mullholland, it looks like it but who knows.

Hi

I see it as Mullholland.  Have you got information on Ralph and Jane's marriage?

Sadly no, I have no info. The marriage of their daughter Elizabeth to John O'Hara occurred in NZ in 1895 and I have as yet not found an immigration record for Elizabeth. There is a Ralph Haliburton who died in 1905 and is buried in Norsewood, NZ which is where John and Elizabeth lived. However I've come across several records for Jane Mulherron and Ralph Haliburton. I have sent a call out to family but whether they reply is a long shot. Any suggestions on where to look next are greatly appreciated. It might be I have to order Elizabeth's death cert. Thanks

For her marriage to Ralph Halliburton (sic) in 1856, Scotland’s People has Jane’s maiden name indexed as Mulherron (I haven’t looked at the original entry to confirm that).  At her death in 1883, she is again indexed as Mulherron.

I think this may be her family in 1851 (FreeCen) in Strathmiglo, Fife:

David Mulheron Head, 50, Ag lab, Co. Donegal
Elizabeth Mulheron wife, 44, Kinross
Sarah Mulheron, dau, 18, linen weaver, Strathmiglo, Fire
Jane Mulheron, dau, 16, linen weaver, Orwell, Kinross
Helen Mulheron, dau, 14, linen weaver, Strathmiglo, Fife
Charles Mulheron, son, 12, linen weaver, Strathmiglo, Fife
John Mulheron, son 7, scholar, Strathmiglo, Fife
Magdalene Mulheron, day, 5, at home, Strathmiglo, Fife

And again in 1841 (FreeCen):

Dan Mulherron, 35 ag lab, Ireland
Eliza Mulherron, 30, Scotland
Eliza Mulherron, 11, Fife
Jane Mulherron, 7, Scotland
Helen Mulherron, 4, Fife
Charles Mulherron, 2 Fife

The father, Daniel Mulherron, died, aged 101 (!) in 1894 - so the David in 1851 looks like a mis-transcription, but you'd need to look at the original to be sure.

Yes thought that was the marriage in New Zealand 1895 did see the tree's on Ancestry but we all know the problems getting the correct information ...The best site to use is www.Scotlandpeople.gov..
I will have a look and see if I can find them on census forms

A tree has the marriage certificate and the fathers name is David and it does look like Mullherron mother Elizabeth Millar ....Think the best thing would be to buy some credits for Scotland's People where you will be able to view and download the death certificate

I have as yet not found an immigration record for Elizabeth

A Lizzie Haliburton (aged 32) and a Jeannie Haliburton (aged 18) left the UK aboard the Jumna on 7 Mar 1890 - they arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 2 May 1890. There’s a marriage in New Zealand in 1899 between a Jeanie Haliburton and Johan Christian Wilhelm Wahl - and a death for Jean Wahl in 1962 in Waipukurau, NZ.

The ages match for Elizabeth and Jane/Jean Haliburton, daughters of Ralph Haliburton and Jane/Jean Mulherron, so might be worth pursuing.

Jane .....,age 26 born Orwell Kinross
Eliza 4. B Kinross ,James 3 b Orwell,Daniel 1 b Orwell
