William Wheatley
« on: Monday 14 November 16 13:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone trace a baptism for this man:

William Wheatley born c1798/1799 in Bishop Auckland.

He married firstly in Houghton-le-Spring on the 25th October 1825 to Elizabeth Cox.
Elizabeth died shortly after the birth of their daughter, Jane, who was baptised on the 6th May 1838, and she was buried in Bishopwearmouth (home residence given as North Moor) on the 4th August.
William remarried in Washington on the 29th July 1840 to a Catherine Hogets and the pair can be found together, along with a growing family, on the 1841 census (at North Moor), 1851(North Moor Engine), 1861 (13 Moor Terrace), & 1871 (Tees Street, Bishopwearmouth).
They then relocated to Hetton-le-Hole and William was buried there on the 26th September 1877; his age given as 79 years.
Catherine remained in Hetton and was buried there on the 9th September 1886.

Frustrating - I know so much about him via census material but cannot trace a baptism!
Can anybody help?

Thanks
Sue

I can see two entries for 1797, if those are any good?

Baptisms   Auckland   1797   William   Wheatley      abode Ferryhill
Baptisms   Auckland   28 Dec 1797   William   Wheatley      abode Etherly [parents William and Ann]

Hi

Don't think its the Ferryhill one as he was still in Auckland in 1851 and married to a Jane.
Could be the other one though - thanks!

There is a Baptism in 1803 in Auckland for a William Wheatley. Can you give his Parents names?

Just as well really, because I couldn't seem to find that christening anywhere other than DRO!

(The 1803 Auckland on the DRO gives his age as born 1803, although I can't see the original image to check)

It's not him I have just found William Wheatley's death and it was also 1803, so he can be ruled out.

The 1840 marriage will give his father's name (hopefully). I'm assuming since you've got the exact date of it that either you've had access to this marriage or someone else has?
