Joseph Russell & Maria Ball
« on: Monday 14 November 16 18:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me find more information about my second great grandparents.

The censuses show that Joseph was born c1811 in Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and Maria born c1813 also in Wycombe.  I've found a text only marriage on 28th October 1832 in West Wycombe of a Joseph to a Maria Ball.

I can't find their births and can't find their parents.  As they were consistent about being born in Wycombe, I'm believing that, but there are two Nottingham baptisms for the right names and years ...

Any help much appreciated.  Thanks.

The 1841 census shows Joseph, Maria and children Joseph, George and Edwin along with a John Ball aged 60 and Elizabeth Ball aged 30, so presumably Maria's father and sister.  They all claim to have been born in county.

Was just on the point of posting that census LindseyB  :) but looking at John Ball, aged 60, I think it might be 'no', not born in county?

Hi brigau, yes, you're right.  We've found a John Ball born Cricklade, near Swindon in the '51 census with Elizabeth living in High Wycombe, but it's such a common name ...

Interestingly, I can't find Joseph, Maria or any of the children in the '51 census.

Oh, silly me ...  ;D

Thanks for that.

If John is the father of Maria, and Elizabeth was born in Buckinghamshire, presumably Maria was too as she was younger ...
