family ancestory

Trying to find information about Annie Myers who may have been born in Co Clare Ireland in around 1848 or 1850.  Her parents may have come to Ireland from Germany or Lithuanian and her father was called Dennis Myers.

Hi Marie and welcome to rootschat

Irish civil birth records did not start until the 1860s so unless you will have to search in church records.  Do you know Annie's religion or if she married?

Clare is a large county and there are many parishes of the main religions Catholic shown on www.nli.ie and Church of Ireland (Protestant) as well as there being other religions for which some records are available.

I have been informed that Anne has a Jewish background though her religion is noted on paperwork as Catholic.  Her ancestors may have come from Germany, Lithuanian or Russia.

Many variations of the name exists e.g. Myer, Meyr, Meyer, Meyerson, Meier, Meir, Maier, Maiorana, Mayer, Mair, Mayr, Von Meyer

The name is documented in England since the Doomsday book and considered Anglo-Saxon and could have spread into Ireland.

If you want to research Annie specifically I think you may need to consider as Rosie99 suggested start with an official record such as her marriage certificate. This will place her and give her father's name. If she wasn't living at home it may give her father's address especially if he was living.

In light of your name, her name and her approx DoB is this her marraige?

Annie was married in February 1883 to John Doran at Kildysart Church in Co Clare.  She remained in this area until her first two daughters were born and then moved to Co Down where her husband was from.

This is their daughters Harriet and Annie DORAN's birth records from 1884 and 1887; LINK
The maiden surname for Annie is shown as MYERS & MEIRE
and lucky for you the grandmother was the informant on both Bridget MYERS or MEERE of Cahercon

Now you have the names of both parents and an address at that time

There is a death of a Denis MEER aged 27 in 1864 - LINK
The original is not on line yet but if this man is married and the informant ties in, this could be her father.

Bridget MEERE died in 1899 and the informant was her daughter in law Mary MEERE of Balylean - LINK

This may help you to locate come of Annie's siblings who may have more information on their records
