That would make sense because as a Ships Carpenter - he could be classed as a Joiner when he was on dry land - do you know his occupation in the Navy  ?
On his Service record R/N it says Carpenters Crew

Yes the family did live in Everton this is were they settled after living in Portsea Hampshire.
