1881 Census Lookup please

The only 1871 Census record I found for Ellen Smith was in a Royal Navy Hospital ? Haslar ? Herbert Street I discounted it as it said she was a prostitute. Then I found Henry Smith also in R/N Hospital ( not same one ) in Hampshire. I never kept census records but will search again.

Henry Smith and Ellen Eliza Tyer were married December 1870 Ellen`s father was William. The record William Henry Smith born Sept Q 1871 Portsea may have been there first child, but if the mmn Tyer William Smith MQ 1871 Liverpool this must be their child.

Hi their appears to be another Smith/Tyer child who may have some significance as to whether there were more than one couple in Liverpool

So does Harding ring any bell's?

EDIT also an Ellen Jane Smith June qtr 1877 West Derby etc mmn Tyer. believe dies in 1878 West Derby

Thank you. Have not come across name Harding. The couple Henry Smith and Ellen Eliza Tyer who married in 1870 going by 1911 census had 10 children only 3 survived Henry c1880/Albert c1883/ & Alfred c1886 I have been trying to search for remaining 7 children. Going through my notes so far I have,
 William Smith born MQ 1871 West Derby mmn Tyer,/
Ellen Jane Smith born JQ 1877 West Derby mmn Tyer death 1878 West Derby George Smith born approx 1879 Liverpool.
There is a gap 1871-1877 The remaining other children who died may have been born here.

I'm throwing my two cents worth here, and I should add I've only been looking for my elusive William Smith for 30 years...

What led me to this thread was my recent close DNA match (2C/2C1R) to a man who descends from Harry Smith, son of Henry Smith and Ellen Eliza Tyer. It is rock-solid that this DNA match is in my Smith line.

My William was very much a man of mystery. My grandmother, Bridget Smith, would never speak of him and I think that's on account him being a Protestant and marrying a Catholic. So I have little to offer about him other than he was born in Liverpool ca. 1872. I'm not even certain of his marriage record, but the best bet I have says his father was called John.

It seems well established that Ellen bore 10 children (I can account for eight) but given neither William (born 1871) nor William Harding Smith (born 1874) are present in the the 1881 census, so I'm thinking that my Williams uncle was Henry Smith.

Hi, have not researched my husbands Smith family for some time. Henry Smith and Ellen Elizabeth Tyer where my husbands ancestors I will look at my Smith folder ( which is packed away) and get back to you. The Smith family settled in Liverpool. Get back asap
