Thanks JM, I thought it was a good sign too. I didn't think of Mary fostering her own child - that fits with her working and living in various hospitals.

The notation on Frank's doc makes more sense too. Under cause of death it says "gastro enteritis (no neglect)" which suggests the fostering family shouldn't be seen as at fault.

I think this would be the family he was boarding with  :)  yes, that comment on the dc is significant.  Was there an inquest, or was that a comment from the medico?

The comment on Frank's dc is by the doctor - no mention of any inquest.

Thanks for the info on the Whites - did some digging and found that Bridget Hogan was the daughter of Edward Hogan and Hannah Collins. The Whites had 6 children from 1897 to 1907, so an extra baby to care for wouldn't be unlikely.
