Horton Mental Hospital
« on: Friday 18 November 16 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone,
I just received a PDF from GRO confirming that my grandmother Christina Murray, died in Horton on 9 Sept 1921. She was buried in the attached cemetery. I have been on the hunt for her maiden name for years - a major brick wall! Does anyone have any experience with the hospital records/cometary records? Would they list a maiden name? On her death certificate it does list her husband's name and her previous address and, of course, cause of death. Another question...her death certificate list her birth year as two years before the census records do...which is more accurate?
Thanks for all your help. SHeila

See http://www.epsomandewellhistoryexplorer.org.uk/HortonCemeteryBurialsM.html  for details of the available burial records and a transcription. She's listed there as aged 67.

Hi Shaun, thanks for that link. I'll check it out. And ScobieDrom, his name was Innes Reid Murray. They lived at 5 Freedom Pl in Battersea. He is buried at Merton. They were married in London.

Yes Shaun,
That is the correct one. Christina is another family mystery. She can be found positively in the British census after she married. The census say she was born in 1856 in Invernesshire. Her marriage certificate list her father as Alexander. There is, unfortuantely, no record of her in Scotlands People. I don't have her mother'S maiden name, which is why I was so hopeful that something might be shown in the hospital records. I've previously put up a query in the Invernesshire rootschat section and received many, many helpful replies, but nothing that has led me to the correct family. Thanks. Sheila

I think his christian name has been mistranscribed as James on the GRO Index.

But surely if you have her marriage certificate you must know her maiden name?
