Step sons or grandsons.

On the 1861 census shows Thomas Waring born 1830 Bristol, wife Jane Waring (formerly Shepherd) born 1826 Bristol.  According to the census they have 2 grandsons living with them Thomas age 7 and Samuel age 1.

Its possible that Thomas, senior, was married before there is a marriage in 1853 to a Mary Pearce, Jane and Thomas married in 1857.

Thomas surely is to young at 31 to have grandchildren, he may of had children from his first marriage but Samuel was born in approx. 1860 after the second marriage.

Can somebody solve this mystery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you KGarrad,  I have also just been on familysearch and found Samuel Charles Waring b 1860 parents Thomas and Jane. So a mistake in the census..

Thomas (jnr) and Samuel are grandsons to the Head of the Household! I.E. Thomas Sheppard.
Thomas (snr) is staying with his in-laws.

That explains it, ancestry did not have the grandparents on their translation.

Technically Thomas (jnr) is not Thomas Sheppard's grandson, (because he is not the son of Jane nee Sheppard, but Thomas snr's first wife) he is his step grandson.
