1939 Register
« on: Wednesday 23 November 16 19:28 GMT (UK) »
I don't want to subscribe to this for a look up of only 2 "lost people" so wondering if anyone would be willing to look for me. William might be shown with just one name, but suspect he would be living with his daughter however here are full names.

William Crawford Bryce LAING born 1867 last known in 1910 in the Westminster district of London, but he died in Hove in 1948, ALSO his daughter Dorothy Audrey LAING born 1900 who was last known with her father in the Westminster District in London in 1910, has been found in Hove in one Electoral Roll and she died there (unmarried) in 1988.

Anyone give me a hint on how to search Electoral Rolls for London areas from here in Australia.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Glenda

I'm sorry but 1939 look-up requests cannot be done on Rootschat.

If you don't have an account, it's quite easy to manipulate the data and get results from the free searches especially if you have full dates of birth rather than just the quarters and years.

The london electoral registers are available on Ancestry but you'll need a full sub to see the details.

You can search on the names or enter the street address without numbers in the keyword box.

The data has been compiled by OCR technology so can be hit and miss.

Who or what address are you looking for?

I don't know an address I just know he died in Hove aged 81 so in 1939 would have bee about 71. His daughter died in Hove too I suspect they lived together until his death. Unfortunately there is only so many paid sites one can afford and i just thought someone who had a sub could be kind enough to try with the information I supplied. I am trying to complete this tree he is the stumbling block. I tried to get his death Cert the other day but the GRO said there was no record but I got full details of folie etc from FREE BMD. ho hum!
