Parsons b 1900
« on: Saturday 26 November 16 13:54 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to help someone with a tree but they have very limited information about the family.

We know that these are relatives but we don't know the Middlesex/London area very well and are unsure about the different districts

Marriage Index
Hendon June 1933
Arthur E Priest and Ellen G Parsons

They are on the 1939 register
Arthur Priest b Sept 1880 - General brick labourer
Ellen b Aug 1900 - Domestic duties
Living Haigh Road, Harrow.

We think we have worked out who Arthurs family were and that he married at least twice?, but we do not know anything about Ellen and would like some guidance as to which Ellen Parsons is the most likely on the birth reg index and also on the 1901 census.

Index
Births Sep 1900
Parsons Ellen - Hampstead
Parsons Ellen Amelia - Richmond, S.

Births Dec 1900
Parsons Ellen Jane - Reading
Parsons Ellen Sarah -  Stepney

The birth date in 1939 could be wrong - have you looked for an Ellen Parsons in the Hendon area in 1911

Ruling out
Possible marriage for Ellen Amelia
Marriages Sep 1922
Parsons    Ellen A    spouse Potton
Richmond S.    2a   1354
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi Rosie, thankyou for your reply

We have looked around a bit there seems to be a few Ellen's dotted about and we do not have full access to the genealogy sites. Not sure how much I am allowed to say about the 1911 .

There does seem to be a family with an Ellen born Hendon living at Willesden?

Thanks for the ruling outs

She seems to be Ellen Gertrude on the electoral rolls. Also she may have been a widow when they married.

Just looking at Ellen G(ertrude) Balcombe who married Charles PARSONS Lewisham 1922.

Ah thank you Maureen , that looks interesting.

A problem we have is that the person whose tree it is hardly has any info about the family at all. We only have the 1939 register as a sure thing, due to dates of birth

You might have to resort to getting the marriage cert. :)

Any idea when Ellen died?

We don't have much info to go on but Ellen might have lived on the coast in later years, and possibly died in "Margate or Southend on Sea".

We received the marriage certificate this morning, only a week after sending off for it  :) But it raises more questions than answers.

Here is the info
27th May 1933
Hendon Register Office
Arthur Ernest Priest- 52 years- Widower- General Labourer- 11 Haig Road, Stanmore- Father James Priest (Deceased)- Chair Maker (Master)
Ellen Gertrude Parsons- 37 years-Widow- 11 Haig Road, Stanmore- Father Walter Sharp- Stud Groom
Witnesses - ECD Hanman?, JM Musson

This is the right family, as we have the same people on record in 1939 at the same address, but the age for Ellen is different to the marriage. In 1939 Ellen gives her year of birth as 1900 (clear on image). On the marriage certificate, age '37', it would be year of birth about 1896

I have tried to find an Ellen G Sharp/e with father Walter but not much luck. The only one that seems to fit is an H/Ellen G Sharp/e registered 1902 Biggleswade. The father looks to be Walter on the census and he is at one point on the census working in 'stables' which fits the occupation, but again the age is out. An online tree gives a similar date of birth, date and month, as the one in 1939 for Ellen and has father Walter (from Biggleswade area) as occupation 'groom' at marriage, but it is years out for Ellen compared to the other records and it is unsourced.

I also looked for Ellens first marriage and there is one at Biggleswade that fits and with the 'G' second name.
Henry T Parsons married Ellen G Sharpe  1919 Biggleswade

The problem is the different ages for Ellen G
1. 1939 record is year of birth 1900 (as Priest)
2. Marriage to Arthur in 1933 would give a year of birth about 1896 (as Parsons)
3. H/Ellen G with father Walter Sharp/e in Biggleswade area, is year of birth 1902 (this is the same year as Walters marriage)

Not sure where to go from here  ???

...just had a thought about Ellen's year of birth

On the marriage certificate it states age as 37 but maybe it was was meant to read as 31?. It looks like 37 on the certificate but if it was 31 then that what would make more sense because it would fit with the Biggleswade area Ellen G born 1902, father Walter
Is it possible that it was written as 37 instead of 31 on the marriage certificate?
