Is it possible to determine the correct person here?
« on: Monday 28 November 16 22:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

I'm interested in a John Pead (spelt John Peed on some documents) who married a Ann Liddington in 1852 in St Pancras. This is shown in the following link (sorry, I don't like to link but there were no reference details on ancestry): http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=1623&h=2318746&ssrc=pt&tid=38112967&pid=310045354015&usePUB=true

The above shows that John's father was a William Pead.

The 1861 census shows John and Ann living together:
Household schedule number   252
Piece   122
Folio   106
Page number   42

Rather unhelpfully it just says he was born in England! His dob is estimated to be 1833 .This is the only census record I can find of John and he appears to have died shortly thereafter as later censuses show Ann as a widow. I cannot however find a record of his death.

I have been looking for a record of john's birth given the above.

I have searched 5 years either way of 1833 (given how inaccurate censuses can be) and have come up with either of the following:

1. John Pead born in 1829 in deptford, son of of William (as noted above) and Elizabeth.

2. John Elah Pead baptised in 1828 in Southwark, son of William (as moted above) and mary

I think 1. Is more likely as the middle name Elah does not appear on the census but is there any way to know for sure? Both 1. and 2. Are close to the marriage location of John and Ann.

Many thanks

John marriage certificate gives father William   Cabinet maker

Witness was Alexander Pead, marriage shows spouse Emma a Webb and father william Cabinet maker.

Looking for an Alexander and john with father william  Cabinet maker leads to 1841 census in Buckinghamshire.

Is this the Deptford one in 1871 - if so he can't be yours?

Moore Street, St Paul Deptford, Greenwich
RG10; Piece: 743; Folio: 62; Page: 20

William Calonsed   47                                  Norwich
Jane Calonsed            44                                  Strand Middlesex
John Pead                   43                                  Deptford, Kent
Thomas Moore           24                                  Bolton le Sands, Lancashire

It gives the relationship as son, which given his age can't be right!

Baptism Date:   1 Apr 1829
Baptism Place:   St Paul, Deptford, Kent, England
Father:   William Pead
Mother:   Elizabeth Pead
FHL Film Number:   384870

I cannot however find a record of his death.

Looking at the GRO deaths, I can't see one between 1861 and 1871 with an age and place that fits. Could he be the one on that census and he's left his wife rather than died? I think that one may say married?

What was his occupation in 1861? The 1871 is a Ship ? can't read the next word.

I believe it is caulker

CAULKER - filled up cracks (in ships or windows) or seams to make them watertight

James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

John surely has to be from the Buckingham family - census 1841:

William Pead    50      Cabinet Maker
Fanny Pead   50
Fanny Pead 25
Sarah Pead 20
Mary Pead 15
Alexander Pead 15
Harriott Pead 10
John Pead 10
Charles Davis 20
Charlotte Davis 20
Thomas Davis 1

As you can see includes both Alexander and John - clearly John and Ann's daughter Fanny named after his mother.

In 1871 when Ann is living with now married dau. Fanny and her husband she is still shown as married.   In view of the fact that John Pead was actually bc.1830 surely his death must be the John Pead bc.1829 who died in June quarter Pancras (but no idea where he was in 1871).

Thanks for this.

I couldn't find these census results on ancestry?

The reference for the 1841 census is H0107 Piece 62, book 10, folio 9, page 12
The surname spelling is correct in the transcription on ancestry
