It would help if you would provide more information about names and dates, and post your query on the Hertfordshire board.

Pontifex - Bucks
Goldhurst - London, Middx, Herts
Kellogg/Kelhog - Essex, Cambs

Hello Chester

Welcome to Rootschat.

You haven't given any names but I had a look at the 1901 census and there is a William and Louisa Ingram with six children living at Hoskins Cottages.

Two of the children appear to be twins.

Registration district is   Bishop Stortford, Piece no. 1285, Folio 32 and Page 17

There were only ten people listed for the Bishop Stortford registration district and eight of them are for one family.

There may well be other Ingrams in the 1901 census who were born in Sawbridgeworth but living elsewhere.
Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

Another place to look, in addition to the census is the HALS search (link below).

There are several marriages in Sawbridgeworth, the earliest, in 1835, between James Ingram and Elizabeth Nottage. But we need a bit more input.

Searching for the Ingram family from Sawbridgeworth
« Reply #4 on: Tuesday 03 January 17 16:53 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Sawbridgeworth Ingram Line

I would appreciate any help that people can give me as this is fairly new and certainly confusing. The information gathered so far is as follows. (My Direct paternal line)

William Ingram c1699 = Mary Wood c1699 (6 x Gt Grandparents)
William Ingram c1735 = Susannah Redding c1735 (5 x Gt Grandparent)
James Ingram c1771 = Susan (Unknown) (4 x Gt Grandparents)
James Ingram c1807 = Elizabeth Nottage c1812 (3 x Gt Grandparents)
John Ingram c1841 = Annie Handcock c1843 (2 x Gt Grandparents)
William Ingram c1870 = Clarice Scruton (Grandparents)

May I thank you in advance for any help

For a start, below are links for the Hertfordshire and Essex record offices. I include Essex because Sawbridgeworth was in the Diocese of London and its wills are in Essex. After parish records, wills are probably the best source.

In Seax, if you choose only images for "Refine your search" you will get the wills. These used to be available for free but now are available only with a subscription.  >:(

Were they living in Sawbridgeworth all that time? It's probably a good idea to look some of the nearby parishes within about 10 miles.

Another place to look is the PCC wills. This is the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, the archbishop's court for people who had property in more than one diocese. If you search for surname Ingram and place either Hertfordshire or Essex, you'll find some. There are two from nearby, Stortford and Thundridge, each about 5 miles from Sawbridgeworth.

I see that your first two generations, William Ingram and Mary Woods, and William Ingram and Susannah Redding, were married in Rickmansworth (in 1720 and 1759).

There's a will of Richard Ingram of Rickmansworth, 1719. It would be a good idea to order a copy of that from the Herts Record Office to see if he had a son named William.

Also, for the marriage of William Ingram and Susannah Redding, both are said to be of Chalfont St Peter, Bucks. There's a will of William Ingram, of Chalfont St Peter, glover, in 1708. You can buy copies of Bucks from the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies:
