Finding details of Births and Marriages - Cephas Howard

Greetings - I am going through our family tree left by my late father in England. I have been checking census details but would like to search out details on the birth and marriages.

For example

I have Cephas Howard marriage date Apr-May-June 1906, place Chorton, Lancashire, England. Volume 8c, Page 1915, Row 118. From the 1911 census, RG14, Piece 21346, District 6, Family 115,Line 1 his wife was Ann. What was his wifes maiden name etc?

His son was also Cephas and could have been born on Jan-Feb-March 1908 in Stockport Volume 8a, Page 27, Row 342. Was his father Cephas and mother Ann?

What I would like is a strategy for researching BM&D's - what info is available and how to find.

It is fabulous that the GRO now indexes Mothers maiden names.

You have to register (its free) but I have found Cephas for you

Those of a certain age might remember the band "The Temperance Seven".  The band's trumpet player was called Cephas Howard.
