The problem with the GRO index from Southport is their index of BMD is independent to the local register office records. Your problem is you don't what part of the country the couple married also not all church records are transcribed in index form online by LSD

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

That marriage was 1853 Preston Edward Parkinson to Margaret Walch
Keyboard86

EDIT just the two children 1857 and 1859 on 1861 Wellingborough census

? Did they in fact marry?

Very sorry, but:

From Lancashire BMD - Edward Parkinson married Ellen Norris at St Mary, Penwortham in 1853.  Margaret Walch married Thomas Heywood, same venue (the other two names on that page).

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
Archbell - anywhere, any date
Kendall - WRY
Milner - WRY
Appleyard - WRY

Thank-you for the research. its greatly appreciated
I've checked what record I can with name variations and possible any pre-marriages and always come to a dead end.  I am starting to consider they were not married.

then i need to find Margaret's family prior to 1861
I have a possibility of her parents being William and Mary with Children being James, William and Margaret in the 1841 and 1851 census (the name of William would tie into the naming of her Children as a family name)
the place of Birth is "Barton on Irwel" its not "Manchester" as she lists on the 61 census but close and Manchester is probably easier information to give on the census

Any thoughts

Francis

Baptism: 4 Mar 1832 St Mary the Virgin, Eccles, Lancashire, England
Margaret Chapman - [Child] of William Chapman & Mary
     Abode: Barton
     Occupation: Labourer

Marriage: 29 Nov 1853 St Mary the Virgin, Eccles, Lancashire, England
John Lomax - (X), of full age, Collier, Bachelor, Pits o'th' Moor
Margaret Chapman - (X), of full age, Spinster, Higher Croft, Barton
     Groom's Father: John Lomax, Labourer
     Bride's Father: William Chapman, Labourer
Witness: William Cooper; Anne Cooper, (X)
Married by Banns by: W. B. Marsden

**************************************************

It would seem the most likely of being your Margaret Chapman as these are the only 2 baptisms of Margo's

Baptism: 12 Feb 1832 St Saviour, Ringley, Lancashire, England
Margaret Chapman - Daughter of James Chapman & Leah
     Abode: Clifton
     Occupation: Weaver

Clifton is on Manchester road between Bolton and Manchester and as Edward Parkinson was born Bolton would seem more fitting
