Margaret McCloud marriage Chelsea 1795
« on: Monday 05 December 16 08:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello
My 4th Grandparents, Margaret McCloud and George Packard married in St Lukes, Chelsea on 6th May 1795. I am wondering if there might have been an entry in the BMD section of the local paper, did they do that in those days in London ?  If so could anybody advise how I would find it.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks Jim
I would like to find the parents of Margaret and where they came from, it would also be interesting to know what they were doing in London, none of my ancestors so far are Londoners and I doubt that these two are either.
Thanks Again
Dave

I wonder if McCloud had previously been spelled as McLeod? Might be worth checking  ;)

She wasn't there on her own as this was one of the witnesses:
Possibly Jane McLeod.

Good point, and well spotted, and curiously Jane and Margaret seem to spell it differently.

McLeod being a Scottish name, perhaps the Anglicised McCloud was easier to explain in London.

I notice they had just 1 child in London in 1797.
Do you know what happened to them afterwards ?
You need to find a Baptism post 1812 as this will give his occupation which might give a clue as to why he was in London.

Thanks Jim
I hadn't got the child born in London, I have William born 1799 Yorkshire, George born 1803 Derbyshire and Henry born 1810 Derbyshire. George was born in Norfolk, George and Margaret died in Chesterfield Derbyshire in 1842 and 1843. My ancestor is his son George who lived in Sheffield.
What is a Baptism Post and how do I get that ?
Thanks Again
Dave
