Nellie Hills nee Blake
« on: Tuesday 06 December 16 10:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi looking for help on my Aunt Nellie Hills nee Blake. After 1945 she married Bill Hills from Balham. I know they lived in Hosack Road Balham for a number of years. I am trying to find out when and where she was born also any information on Bill Hills her husband would be most appreciated. Gerry

Do you know when and where she died (even roughly)?  Her death registration, if in England, should provide her age at death or even (1969 onwards) her date of birth.

My wife thinks my Aunt died in the late 1980s in a nursing home, that's the best info I have at the minute. My mum her sister died later I will look through some of my mums letters and see if she recorded anything.

The marriage certificate (if you order it using the index info Rosie has found) will tell you the name and occupation of her father and her abode at the time of marriage.  It may tell you her age, or may simply say that she was of Full Age (21 or over).  It will not tell you where she was born.

If your mum was her sister then presumably you know their mother's maiden name?  You should then be in a position to find the birth using the combination of Blake and mother's maiden name, on FreeBMD - have you tried this?

Edit - but having looked at your other thread this appears to be an Antrim family, in which case FreeBMD, which covers England & Wales, will not help you.

Her mothers maiden name was Devlin but my grandfather moved to Ramsey in 1922 and as there is no record of Aunt Nellie born in Ireland and she was a lot younger than my mum, I thought maybe she had to be born in England, just a guess as I never heard my mum mention her when they were moving round Ireland as my Grandad was posted to different stations.
