Help me find my family
« on: Wednesday 07 December 16 23:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I was born illegitimately Brian John Kennedy 13/6/1952 in Essex Public Hospital Christchurch NZ. My unmarried mother was (*) aged 25 born in Ashburton NZ. This information has only been revealed to me very recently so I'm desperate to find any information I can about my parents or any surviving family members. Soon after I was born I was adopted my name changed and my adopted parents moved me to Invercargill NZ. Problem I live in NSW Australia unable to source library records visit graves etc so any info readers could find would be greatly appreciated  Regards Michael

Welcome to rootschat Michael.

I'm afraid we are not allowed to discuss living people here, so you will need to remove your and your mother's full names (initials are OK). I think it will be acceptable to leave your birth name though, as that name no longer identifies you. Someone else will advise if this is incorrect.

I can't help with your search, but I think this might be better on the NZ board where you should get some help. I will ask a moderator to move this for you.

After you have made a couple more posts (even just replying here a couple more times, will be fine) then the Personal Messaging system will be activated, and anyone willing and able to help you can contact you via PM, so we keep the names of the living off the public forum.

Best of luck in the search.  :)

Welcome from me too.

May I support everything that Ruskie has written.

May I suggest you consider registering with the following online register http://www.ozreunion.com.au/adoption_register.asp?listingtype=14&fl=R&page_name=adoption_register

And also may I mention that the NZ BDM should not have recorded 'illegitimate' on your birth registration.

1930 - Births and Deaths Amendment Act. This act directs the omission of the word ‘illegitimate’ from the register when the birth of an illegitimate child is registered.  http://datainfoplus.stats.govt.nz/item/nz.govt.stats/24f68263-9666-4dca-b5d8-c1bc4bef92c4/44/

Your enquiry on the NZ board has landed on their COMPLETED section,  I will report to a moderator and it will be moved to the main board.  The NZ RChatters are excellent.  :)

I don't know if TV companies in New Zeland do similar programmes like these in the UK, but they do find lost relatives in New Zealand for UK residents. Therefore you could write to the BBC or ITV - TV companies in the UK for advice.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

The OP has also posted similar information on a topic on New Zealand Completed Requests to which I have replied with suggestions for further private research.

Thanks spades. I have requested again that this thread be moved to the NZ board, and JM has requested that Michael's post which is tacked on the end of the Kennedy thread, be split and merged with this one. Hopefully that will be done before Michael returns.  :)

Hi Ruskie,

As the OP posted simultaneously in both places merging them will make a messy new topic.

Because the person being researched is possibly still living the OP should pursue private research with the advice already provided on both topics and also by PM.

I think it best if both topics are left as they are.

OK.  You don't think it possible that someone in NZ can be of some additional assistance to Michael? Obviously this will have to happen via PM.

(I know nothing about research in NZ but sometimes off line help is given on other boards with researching the living).

If you believe that merging Michael's two posts will make it "messy" then at least I think this thread should be moved to NZ rather than being virtually ignored here on "Beginners" - I don't consider it to be getting as much attention as it deserves. In fact I think it is almost unfair not to move it to NZ.  :(

That's the live link to the KENNEDY thread on the NZ completed board.   That thread's OP was the late Tiffaney.    From March 2012 until this month (December 2016) no one had posted on that completed thread.

Perhaps if it is too messy to move this current thread over to NZ's main board, (ie if it were to stay on the Beginners Board,) then perhaps ... perhaps.. the very recent replies on the NZ completed thread could be hived off and moved here to this thread.     :)
