Immigration for Fred and James Davy
« on: Friday 09 December 16 08:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi to everyone

I am looking for the immigration for Fred Davy and his brother James

Fred enlisted in the AIF No 1181 which gives his birth Hull Yorkshire.  He enlisted at Liverpool NSW in 1915.  His NOK is James Davy brother Goondah NSW. He died in Canberra late of Wingello on 15 Aug 1978 (Ryerson Index)

I have James Davy DC 1944/15282.  He was in NSW for 31 years, parents James Thomas Davy and Mary Jane Forbes so arrived about 1913.  I don't think they arrived together

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Rosie
The ages of both Fred and James are about right.
Both are buried at Penrose Cemetery NSW.  James Methodist and Fred Anglican.

You probably have the photos of the graves at Penrose for James and his wife Alice, also their son James.  The entry for Fred seems to be for  Lance Corporal F. Davy and  there is an MI for "Phoebe DAVY, loved wife of Fred" 1901-1966

There is a WW1 military record for Fred DAVY at the National Archives site. Quite a few pages of the record are requests from Fred for copies of his army service record and replacement medals as they were lost in a bush-fire at Wingello or Marulan around 1956.  He served at Gallipoli and in France. (There is at least one page mixed in with this that is not his)

Thanks Judith
I have a copy of an obit for Fred in the Southern Highland News dated 28 August 1978 which also mentions the bushfire in 1965 and that he worked for the South Marulan Limestone mine where he lost an eye.

James seems to have been losing his sight in 1928

I will have a look at Trove and see if I can find any thing about Fred at South Marulan when I get time and also look for their parents in Yorkshire
