How to find somebody
« on: Friday 09 December 16 23:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I'm hoping somebody can help me.  I'm trying to find my half brother unfortunately the only information I have on him is birth year and state he was born in.  My bio father is deceased.  Even when alive he was no help.  Any advice is welcome

Welcome to rootschat Nikki.

This forum is generally for researching lost deceased ancestors rather than reuniting family. We also have a no living person's policy so we are not allowed to mention the names of anyone still living.

Someone may be able to help you via the personal messaging system, which is activated after you have made couple more posts ( just reply here again).  :) Any correspondence can then happen privately.

Whereabouts in the world was your half brother born, and what year? You have posted this request on the wrong board, and when I know the answer to this question, I will ask a moderator to move this query to the appropriate board. It might also be a good idea to change your subject heading too, to give more of an idea of what you are looking for - for example, "searching for half brother born (year) in (place)".

There may be a way to find him via births registered in a certain time frame in a certain place with your father named as father. If he is not named as the father then it will be more difficult I think. :-\

It is difficult to suggest possible sources if you aren't based in the UK.

Have you tried social media such as facebook pages?

Have you tried electoral registers?

even putting his name into internet search engines might give results.

I don't have a name that's why I can't do an Internet search.  I have a year which is 1983 and ohio is state he was born in.  Sorry if I'm no posting correctly.  I'm running out of ideas.  Thank you

If you haven't done so already, you may want to try autosomal DNA testing through Ancestry.com or one of the other companies that does it.  It worked for me in finding my birthfather's family, and I was born in Ohio, too.

Do you know anything about your half-brother's mother?  Was he raised by her or was he placed for adoption?

Did your biological father live somewhere in Ohio?  Have you checked his obituary to see if there's any mention of his son?
