ARMSTRONG and McALLISTER
« on: Saturday 10 December 16 06:44 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find out more information on my g-g-g-g grandparents and their family

Robert ARMSTRONG married Susan McALLISTER probably in Ireland. (I have no other details on them but I suspect they came to Wigtownshire as I have located some children there).

They had the following children that I know of
Robert
Thomas b abt 1771 Ireland, died  23 March 1858 Wigtownshire. I suspect he may have married Maryann Brown
Elizabeth b abt 1776 Northern Ireland, married Hugh Wilson, probably in Ireland died 26 May 1861 Portpatrick. (This is my line)
Agnes b abt 1785 Ireland, married Robert Semple 22 December 1827 Portpatrick, died 19 September 1869 Portpatrick
David b abt 1793 Ireland, married Mary McKnight died 14 October 1880 Portpatrick.

From the dates, I suspect there were other children who also probably came to Portpatrick but I have been unable to trace them or find any further information on the parents.

I would be grateful for any suggestions on how I can progress this family

Thanks

Carawa  :) :)

Hi Carawa,

Have you been able to find any of the above on the 1841 or 1851 Census?

There is a good possibility for David Armstrong with wife Mary and with brother Robert (although Robert's age is a bit out from the date of birth you have given).

1841 - Portpatrick -
Enoch.

ARMSTRONG Robert    M      62   Farmer Ireland
ARMSTRONG David     M      45  Brother Ireland
ARMSTRONG Mary      F       40  Wife  Wigtownshire
ARMSTRONG Susan    F        12  Daughter  Wigtownshire
ARMSTRONG  Mary     F        9   Daughter    Wigtownshire
ARMSTRONG  David    M       6   Son    Wigtownshire
ARMSTRONG  James   M       4    Son  Wigtownshire

I found the above , a transcription of the 1841 Census on www.freecen.org.uk  . Not all Censuses are transcribed for Wigtownshire ( the site is maintained and updated by volunteers) , but it is free to search.

Good luck with your search,

Looby :)

Also found what looks to be your line Hugh and Elizabeth Wilson in Stoneykirk , Wigtownshire on the 1841

Address - Garry.

WILSON Hugh   M  50   Ag Lab  Ireland
WILSON Hugh   M   25               Wigtownshire
WILSON  John   M   30                Ireland
WILSON  Elisabeth   F   65          Ireland
ARMSTRONG  David    M   15       Wigtownshire

No relationships are recorded, but that looks like a husband , wife & 2 sons .....with perhaps a nephew ??

Looby :)

Hi Looby

This definitely sounds like my family so that  gives me another avenue to follow.

Many thanks
