I suspected the name changed but thanks to you all a clearer picture is emerging and the general area seems right to me

Many thanks again KGarrad, I had come across the Meriden District birth for Charles but you have revealed the Berkswell part so that is superb.
I have got the 1861 and 1841 so that has filled in a large gap.

Certainly looks like it but by 1891 he was working for the corporation as a pavior's labourer as was his son Charles!

Surprise to see the birth place of wife Sarah as Foleshill but there again her mother was born in Coventry and no doubt the family lived there before moving to Stoneleigh where her father had been born.
