Trying to find my GGreat Grandparents
« on: Tuesday 13 December 16 09:04 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am at the beginning stages of researching the Moore branch of my family and i have to admit, i am at a bit of a loss.

My grandmother Joan Anita Moore was born 12th May 1922 and was registered at Ongar, Essex. She married my great grandfather Albert James Creed in 1941 and married again, later taking the name Axten before dying in June 1985.

I see that Joan's mothers maiden name was Butler.

With all this information i still dont know who Joan's, my great great grandparents were.

Any help with this would be fantastic.

Regards, D.

You're best option would be to order Joan's birth certificate. This will tell you the names of both parents and where they were living at the time of her birth. There is a birth in the same quarter of Irene J Moore with mother's maiden name Butler, so this could be her twin. There is also a Ronald A Moore with mother's maiden name Butler born in Ongar in 1924, possibly a brother.

Another option is to order Joan's marriage certificate, which would name her father, but I would personally go for the birth certificate as you'll get her mother's name too. :)

The people mentioned in the post above could still be alive so we shouldn't actually give their names!

The two births registered in the same quarter could be twins, but they are actually on consecutive pages rather than the same page so unless you can see the register, or both birth ceertificates, I would be hesitant to assume twindom.

It would be lovely if there was a Moore - Butler marriage in the area shortly before these births but there isn't!

Hi,

As far as i am aware only Ronnie and Joan are related, both have passed away. It looks as though i will need to get the birth certificate. Its such a shame when you feel you have enough info. In the back of my mind i have my great great grandparents perhaps being called James and Emma and perhaps something to do with Brighton but these are long dormant memories.

Regards, D.

Cancel that, i found a William Moore marrying a Butler in 1919 in Birmingham. This is the closest marriage of a Moore and Butler to the date of their first child in 1922.

But you can't assume that these are the right people!

Do you know when Albert Creed was born? I'm trying to find either of them (Albert or Joan) in 1939

Albert was born in 1918 but may well have been in Palestine in 1939 as he was a pre war regular soldier. They married in Hertfordshire in 1941 if that helps.

I can't find either in 1939; if Albert was in the army that would probably explain his absence from the register, but what about Joan? Where was she in 1939?
