Tooths of Sussex
« on: Wednesday 14 December 16 14:15 GMT (UK) »
This site has been valuable in my amateur ancestry, but I have hit a wall!

I'm researching the lineage of one John Ernest Tooth (1889-1986) who moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada about 1910. This forum has already been of help, as he has been discussed here in the past.

Specifically, I am hoping to confirm his connection to this tree, found on TheWeald;
http://theweald.org/N10.asp?NId=5583475

After linking sources to each of the people listed on the above tree with FamilySearch, I found what felt like dozens of Thomas and William Tooths in the Sussex area. Would getting a paid subscription to a site like Ancestry help me clear confusions like this up? I swear at least 5 Thomas Tooths wed as many Mary______'s in a 30 mile, 10 year period

Thank you!

Brent

Where are you stuck? Have you got John Ernests parents and siblings?

The only way you will see if your Tooth interlinks with another tree of Tooths is by methodical research of your family, following each male line.

I was going to say "welcome to Rootschat" as I see it is your first post as Diente, but then you refer to previous threads on here, so I guess you have just had a name-change!

Amazing, thank you!

I was wary of that connection, but onwards, I've traced back to a William Tooth and Mary Steevens in 1722, also in Ringmer. I haven't figured out how to share my FamilySearch tree, unfortunately.

I guess this is where I wondered if a paid subscription to a site like ancestry would pay off. At that time there were multiple Tooth families in Sussex, and it's been difficult to keep the Tooths of East Grinstead separate from the Tooth's of Mayfield, of Lewes, etc.

Thanks again for the help!
