Charles Wyatt b3 Aug 1833 Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 21 December 16 03:32 GMT (UK) »
I am renewing my search for Charles Wyatt s/o Joseph Wyatt and Ellen ( Bartle ) of Blackshaw Farm Glossop.
Siblings of Charles were bpt. All Saints Glossop. I cannot see that he was bpt there.

I have a newspaper report placing him in Glossop Oct 1859 but cannot find any record of him beyond that date.I am assuming he was still living Glossop.

I have located a record of ships postings relating to a Charles Wyatt b3 Aug 1833 which might be him but I need to verify.
If it is him he became a ship's carpenter and served on Princess Royal, Argus , Volage , Hector , Duke of Wellington , Asia , Temeraire , and Anson and others.
He retired on account of age 3 Aug 1888.
His first warrant was dated 9 April 1864.

Can anyone help further identify him?
It has been suggested to me that this Charles Wyatt did not come from Glossop.

A record of his death might help confirm. He should have been about 55 years.

Thanks rosie99.
The newspaper report identifies Charles Wyatt of Blackshaw ( Glossop) as the driver of a black cart bearing the coffin of a famous dog "Glory Scholes"to its burial at Cowned Edge ??? ( Crown Edge) near Glossop. Blackshaw Farm was the home of my Wyatt family.

With the exception of this siting , Charles not found beyond 1841 Census.

Thanks for interest.

Thanks heywood.
I think this must be the same topic.
Seems Charles Wyatt the sailor died Taunton Sep Qtr 1904 aged 71.
National Archives records that this Charles Wyatt was born Taunton Somerset.
I am expecting my Charles Wyatt to have been born Derbyshire as that is where the family lived.
There are other references to a Charles Wyatt at Hampshire,I suppose not impossible but a long way from Glossop.I live in Australia
Seems my Charles Wyatt was not the sailor.

I have just read your most recent posting heywood. This appears to be the sailor(ships carpenter) in 1901 , so establishes not my Charles Wyatt from Glossop.

Thank you very much.

I am wondering if Charles who appears in the newspaper was in fact Cephas Wyatt who in 1861 is a 'Carter' and living at Blackshaw with Joseph & Ellen.

I wondered that here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=681930.0

Even though the newspaper article states Charles, it could be an error perhaps.
