Burial
« on: Friday 23 December 16 12:04 GMT (UK) »
:)How do I find if my Greatgrandmother was buried on Alderney? I know she died there 31st Dec. 1869. Her husband was posted there in the Army.

Hi,

Unfortunately it looks like most of the relevant parish records for a 1869/1870 burial have been lost,

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/CHI/ALD

It might be worth contacting St Anne's to see if they have any transcriptions of headstones, but it seems unlikely,

In 1940 "The vault was desecrated, the altar was dumped in a nearby field and the headstones were uprooted in the churchyard."

Many thanks Daisy

I saw the burials records had been lost but I was hoping some headstones had been listed or survived I did not realise the church had been desecrated although I knew Alderney was occupied.
