The Hessle area is quite well covered by online newspapers either by a subscription to FindMyPast/British Newspaper Archives.

Some library services in the UK have access to FindMyPast, others allow you to access British library newspapers at home using your library card details.

To try & get more information on Dennis's parents it does look as though you will need the 1855 marriage cert.  Unfortunately it does not appear on line.

Family Search show a Dennis Porter marrying a Mary Cowplin in Kirkby Stephen in 1783, possibly parents?

Hi again, can see the 1851 above family with Thomas a Tailor, oddly their was also this marriage which has a Father that may be of relevance ( Possibly a son of Dennis/Hannah)
