Parents of Alfred Anderson (b.1883)

Hello.

I am unable to find the parents names of an ancestor of mine, by the name of Alfred Anderson.

He was born, in Sunderland I believe, in 1883 (give/take a year).

He married Elizabeth Ann Potts in Sunderland, Durham in 1903.

The only Alfred Andersons b.1882-84 in the county I have found so far on the 1901 census are:

Alfred Anderson, Sunderland, b.1882 in Sweden

Alfred Anderson, Belmont, b.1884 in Ingleby, Yorkshire

Alfred Anderson, Sunderland, b.1884 in Norway

Alfred died in 1928, Sunderland.

Any information here would be more than appreciated.

That is not currently in my possession.

It might be advisable to get it, as his father's name and occupation may help you identify him correctly in an earlier census.

As you’ve posted on the Beginners’ board, it may be worth pointing out that the recommended way to research is to obtain ancestors’ birth/marriage/death certificates where possible, and to cross-match that data not only with census findings but with as many other different kinds of records as you can find.

Relying on census records alone can be little better than guesswork, especially for common surnames in a densely populated area, and you may end up chasing the wrong family. Most of us here will have fallen into that trap at one time or another.
