Flintshire Observer, Friday 28 July 1871, page 4, column 1:
"FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE COPPA COLLIERY. On Wednesday morning a strange and fatal accident occurred at the Coppa Colliery. A man named Thos. Foulkes was coming up in the cage with a roller in his arms, which caught one of the bearers at the side of the pit. The deceased was thrown out of the cage and crushed to death against the side of the shaft. It took three hours to extricate the deceased, who was forty years of age, and married with four children."
Verdict Accidentally killed by falling down a coal-pit.
