« on: Sunday 25 December 16 14:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi  :

I have no idea of the location of this picture , but it is one of my quests for 2017.

I know my local church's , so working on that idea,

I was hoping someone would look at the picture and say " Well I know that church it is ........ "

or even better if someone see's a familiar face .

I only know one person on this picture  :)

Do you have a date for the pic?

Can you name the person you 'know' with any extra details, their age in pic (if known) or yr of birth (if age unknown in pic)

Others may recognise the name in their tree which may help to identify others in pic & place?

Can you identify position of your person e.g. 3rd left & what relation if any to Bride & Groom?

I'm guessing that this is just pre-war 1939 or at the beginning of the war 1940/41.  I see that the bridegroom is wearing what I take to be army uniform as are two of the other chaps to the right of the bride.

I wonder if the little girl with the bonnet is a Rootschatter and will recognise her small self!  Does anyone think she looks like the bridegroom or is that my imagination?  A very much younger sister or a niece perhaps?

GG, I thought she looked very like the bridesmaid on the left?

Could it be her daughter & she the sister of the groom i.e. wee girl being niece of the groom as you say?

You could perhaps approach the bell ringing magazine The Ringing World and see if they would publish the photo.  If the church has or had bells, there's a fair chance someone would recognise it.

Hello.

Thank you for your input.

My late Mothering-law is on the picture , far right,

she was born in 1924, and I think she was about 20 in the pic ?  so abt 1944 ish ?

at this time her home was Welwyn garden city. but could have been anywhere .

I think she must be at a friends wedding , as none of her relatives are in the picture.

will try ringing world as suggested.

thank you .

I'd guessed about 1944 from what people were wearing in the picture, especially the hats - a fashion item not rationed via the "points" system, if I'm right, and much ingenuity was exercised in devising them.
The wedding dress might be a bit earlier, re-cycled (there was a war on,....) but the flowers look right for that date.
I do hope that you find it, and let us all know.
Might there be online records for the wedding, if you know the names of even one of the people wed, you may find it. Look for weddings in likely areas, a surprising number are available, and they will give the name of the church - parish records are usually more helpful than register office records at this level. Good luck.

The soldiers are wearing shirts and ties, which suggest post war by a year or  three, not that will help at all. Most of the clothes are probably pre 1940. It's the church with it's distinctive main entrance that's the best bet. I have trawled images for Hertfordshire churches without result.

The ogee arch and similar decoration on the buttresses are very distinctive. I would guess it's a Victorian town church, but the clothes, hats etc. Look 1940-3 to me. I've several family photos that look exactly the same,
