This is my story, can anyone help
« on: Monday 25 July 05 22:54 BST (UK) »
My mother-in law was "born" 5/6/1914 in Beith, Scotland. She married in 1940 in London. Her Marriage cert age matched her "birth" year. In 1980 i married her son. She told me 1914 was not her real "birth date.  We all thought she was younger than she made out. She told me a story about her Childhood. She was brought up by her Grandmother (Granny Smith ) and in her early teens discovered her "Best Friend" was in fact her sister. Her Father who she did not Know died in 1924. Her Mother remarried a Mr Smith. It was his mother that brought her up.
Now the problem is the dates do not Tie in. My Late Mother-in-law(bless her soul) was born 3 June 1907 Beith, Scotland.(I have her birth cert as we needed it when she went into a Rest Home) Her Husband was born 1912. Her Mother married her father just before her birth in 1907. I am trying to find the Death of her father but 1924 seems to late. What i have so far;
Mary Love Nee Dempster b 1882 Beith
Robert Love b 1877 Beith (m 1/4/1907 Glasgow)
Mary Love b 3/6/1907 Beith
Bessie Love ( m someone called Austin)
Robert Love
Catherine Dempster ( b out of wedlock )
I have been reading her dairies to try and sort this out. Mary Dempster had 2 or 3 Children to Mr Smith. If Robert Love died in 1924 she would have been 18 when she was brought up by Granny Smith. This Lady was alive in the late 1930's as my father-in-law met her. The dates do not match the events. I would Love to Know who her siblings were, When her mum remarried, and when her father died.
Can anyone help me put my mother-in-laws life back together. She died in 2000 at the age of 92.
Footnote: Just noticed the posting on Lusitania and it sent me back to mum's dairies, Robert Love b 1877 wood carver did all wood carving on Titanic and Lusitania. Re fused free trip on Titanic to work on Lusitania

The address below will take you to Lanarkshire Family History Society message board, where a lady has graciously compiled her certificates into a database and will send you the list.  I asked for it and it has several of the Love family from Beith.  Not the names you mention, but then she may know more if you can email her about it.

Click on 'Noticeboard', then 'Name Searches' and then scroll down to the topic  'free birth certs' by annetpep.

Lots of people have requested what they want on the actual message board, but if you click on the little envelope next to her user name of annetpep, you should be able to email her directly.  That is what I did.

Good luck!

Nina

Hi Carol80,
I am very confused,  :-
I have read this several times and made a little tree.  :-
I have found you a certificate, but, do you already have it. ???
Can you please.......... tell me what certificates you do have,

And i think if you do belong to scotlandspeople, you would have this certificate.
Waiting eagerly, for your reply.
kenjo :P

modified..........
What I have is the marriage of Mary Dempster Love, to Smith.....
10 yrs earlier than thought.
But His mother is already deceased......
so it can't be the Smith fellow's mother who raised your Mother-in - law.
all is OK....... but, your suspicions correct.

Modified...........again.............
I have the Death of Robert Love.......
so if you send me a PM I will send you the certificates.....
he died 1912... and she remarried 1917.
I don't know who Granny Smith is!
Regards.

Mary Love was born in Beith 3/6/1907. Her parents were Robert Love b Beith  1877, and Mary Dempster b Beith 1882. Robert and Mary married 1/4/1907 in Glasgow. There were 3 children born to this couple:
          Mary b Beith 1907
          Bessise b ?    ?      ( became Mrs Astin d 1984 )
Robert b ?       ?    ( possibly had a son by the name of Campbell)
A 4th Child Catherine was born out of wedlock( d 2000 )
Mary Dempster Love b 1882 than married a Mr Smith a Train Conductor from Beith ? and had 2 son's ( I believe one was named George Dempster Smith ).
I have the birth cert of Mary b 1907 and that confirms her parent's as Robert Love and Mary Dempster. It also gives address at birth as New Street Beith. I also have Mary's Marriage cert. Mary Love married Gordon Biddiss 29/12/1940 at Gilford, England. Any help in finding this family would be much appreciated as i can not afford SP. I am on a very low income after having a stoke. This is the reason for my wanting to put my family tree together so my grandchildren Know where they came from. I know i have left it a bit late but better late than never.
Many thanks for reading my ramblings.
