Halesowen or Stourbridge Newspapers around in 1977
« on: Wednesday 28 December 16 17:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I'm looking for a newspaper that was around in the Halesowen or Stourbridge area in 1977 please.

I have already contacted Wolverhampton Archives about their collection of the Express and Star paper, but they don't hold the "Dudley Edition", and the article i'm looking for didn't make the "Wolverhampton edition", they have checked.

Dudley archives only have the "Dudley Edition" E&S from 2003 onwards so they can't help.  Sandwell archives have the "Sandwell Edition" of the E&S from 1985 onwards.

Now i'm looking for any other paper around then which may contain the article i'm looking for.  The incident occurred on the evening of the 28th February 1977 on Gorsty Hill Road, Halesowen.

The article was about my uncle who was killed on his motorbike.  He lived in Halesowen, but six months prior to the accident.  His parents lived in Oldbury where he also worked.

My relatives say the incident made front page news of the Express and Star back then, so I think possibly it could have made other local papers.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks
Mark

A forerunner of The Stourbridge News was The County Express, if that helps  :-\

Thanks.

It seems the Dudley Archives may hold the County Express so i'll contact them in the new year and arrange to view it.

I visited the Dudley Archives today and looked at the County Express.  Unfortunately it didn't contain the article I was looking for.

I also viewed the Dudley Herald and also didn't find it.

I'm going to Sandwell Archives in the new year to see if there are any papers local to Oldbury or Blackheath that may contain the article i'm looking for.
