Genes Reunited 50% Off?
« on: Thursday 29 December 16 14:12 GMT (UK) »
This advert appeared out of the blue at the top of my Council Recylcing page! I was trying to find out what to do with my used Christmas wrapping paper.

By quoting AW2016 apparently there's 50% off GR subscription until 31 December.

Can anyone actually tell me how much it will cost now and for how long? Also which subscription are they talking about? Standard or Platinum?

Thank you.

Thank you.

So the Standard subscription is on this offer too.  Mmmmm, I used to belong to GR but nowadays I go along to my local library if I want to search for anything special. However, it's useful, in the Winter, to be able to search from your own fireside.

Beware of all the collections which aren't included and you have to pay extra for.
It looks like parish records, for example, aren't included in the £39.98 offer.

I've been a member of GR for very many years now, in fact I started my family history quest on there before discovering other websites.  I'm on the very most basic of basic tariffs, pay about £9 a year, but if I wanted to search some of the extra records, for example, I would just pay a couple of pounds for what I needed.  For me, paying one of these inflated fees for a lot of stuff you don't really need is rather like buying a posh washing machine with lots of different programmes and then only using one or two of them.  I can search other members' trees for family names and communicate with others who might share my ancestors.  I keep my family tree there, too.  Just pay for what you need is my motto.
