Anyone remember Rounds cooperage in the Old Hill / Cradley Heath area?
« on: Thursday 29 December 16 18:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

For a while now I've been trying to find more about my Round ancestors and their business.

Mark Noah Thomas Round (1868-1924) started a timber merchant business named "Mark Round & Sons".  They had premises on Lawrence Lane in Old Hill, Plant Street, Old Hill, and also New Street in Old Hill.

From what I have found the business lasted well past the 1950's.  Mark senior's son also named Mark Noah Thomas Round took the business over after his father's passing.

Does anyone remember the cooperage?  Luckily I was contacted sometime ago by a classic car restoration company who were importing Mark NT Round Jnr's Rolls Royce car back from Australia.

Mark acquired it in the 1940's.

I know that there is another firm from the Dudley area called "Mark Round & Son" but I believe this firm are builders merchants and not connected to the Round timber merchants of Cradley Heath and Old Hill.
