Seeking information on Thomas Best's parents and siblings.
Thomas was born in Cornwall; emigrated to Australia in 1862; departed Plymouth on the vessel Sussex arriving Port Melbourne (Victoria), 29/12/1863, then Adelaide on vessel Aldinga I, 3/1/1863. Married Ellen J. Hawke at Unley Sth Australia, 28/3/1865. Died 20/6/1865.

Birth year purported to be 1835. Have found many Thomas Best's in 1841, 1851 census' in Cornwall but cannot tie him to any particular family. Closest I can get is F - John, M - Ann (or Anne or Nancy) Stephens of Higher Trelavour, St Dennis. 

Non-conformist Bible Christian may explain lack of records. Anyone help in ID?

What information about his parents was on his marriage or death certificates?

The marriage record gives Thomas father as John. You really should purchase this as chempat says to see if it mentions his mother. I am not familiar with South Australian certificates but NSW death certs give parents names if known.
There is no mention of Thomas' parents in the marriage notice South Australian Advertiser Thursday 27 April 1865
They were married by licence. Possibly because they were dissenters.

Death certificates and death notices can provide a lot of information.  My priority would be to get the certificates (marriage and death) and look for any death notice.
