Help needed - electoral roll Garway Hill
« on: Saturday 31 December 16 10:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi all

Bit of a sensitive subject. Trying to find my husband's Grandad.

My husband's Mom doesn't know who her father is. The only thing she knows if that he was maybe called Ted (Edward).

Does anyone has access to electoral roll records from the late 40's to early 50's at all that would mind checking?

My mother in law was born in 1951. Her mother was Ada Barbara Jones, known as Barbara and lived on Garway Hill. Barbara may have still been living with her parents Ephraim and Mary Jones or may have been living with Ted at Dingle Cottage.
Not much to go on I'm afraid.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi

Quote
he was maybe called Ted (Edward).

If there is no fathers name on her 1951 birth cert then without some further proof of her fathers full name and surname it would be very difficult to prove paternity.

Electoral registers for that period are address driven and although Ada may have lived on Garway Hill - there is no proof the biological father did.  He may not even have been from that area

Did Ada refuse to name the father during her lifetime?

Hi

Thanks for your reply. It will certainly be very difficult to prove anything.

No information was given on my mother in law's birth certificate and very little verbal info was given, except that he was called Ted.

We don't know if they lived together, was a fling or a one night affair. We are trying every angle we can in the hope to find something. Like you say though, proving paternity would be virtually impossible even if we did find someone of that name living with her.

I would hazard a guess and rule out a long term or living together relationship as that type of info tends to "trickle out" over the years from relatives & neighbours etc

Given the lack of info from Ada I suspect it was of a much more casual nature or he was possibly a married man.
