Robert STEVENSON born Co Down c 1841
« on: Saturday 07 January 17 17:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

Am looking for some more information on the above - my 2nd great grandfather on my mum's side.

I've collated some info from Family Search census details in that he married Jane b 1840 Co Down. They had at least 4 children- 1 John born in Down and the other 3 ( including my great granny Sarah - 1875) born in Liverpool. Sarah went on to marry Joseph Jones & trying to unravel the Jones & Stevensons is difficult to say the least!!!

I found a marriage cert re a Robert Stevenson marrying a Jane Martin in Banbridge in 1859 but not sure if this is the same family.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

1871 census via http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk/confirms
residence    Gascoyne Street Court  Liverpool
children
John b 1861 Ireland that means his record should be in GRONI Belfast  abt £2.50 unless you need certificate.   I think he might be b 1860 with father Robert https://www.ancestryireland.com credits reguired
Isaac b 1865 Lancashire
Robert b1869 Lancashire
Sarah 1877 Lancashire m joseph 4th qter 1895, Toxeth Park, Lancashire seehttp://www.freebmd.org.uk

re a Robert Stevenson marrying a Jane Martin in Banbridge in 1859 but not sure if this is the same family. My best guess too

Civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 so GRONI will not have a certificate for his birth.

Thanks all for your input.

I wasn't sure if the Church in Down would have on line records going back to the 1800s so looks as though I need to bite the bullet & join Ancestry to find more info about Robert Stevenson in Co Down!!! and Yes I'm sure that's my Robert who married Jane Martin also from Co Down.

It's AncestryIreland you need- not Ancestry  ;)

Hi Sue123

In researching my (Barclay) family tree, I've just discovered that one of my ancestors - Mary Isabella Barclay- married a Robert Stevenson from Rathconwell/Rathconvil co.down on 31/10/1854

I know its a bit of a long shot, and probably a bit cheeky, but on the off chance you've come across (and kept) any info about 'my' Robert Stevenson family - they seem to have emigrated to Pittsburgh USA by 1875- I'd be keen to know.

They were in Pittsburgh by 1862 according to Robert Sr's death, the 1870 census, and daughter Martha's death record.

Robert Stevenson Sr, husband of Mary Isabella Barclay, was a "minister of the gospel" according to his death record, and 1870 census. Do you know what denomination? Do you know in what church/denomination they were married? This will help greatly when looking for Irish records.

Or have you been through that already?
Or are you looking for the US records?

edited to add:
they arrived between
1) son Joseph's birth in Ireland, which was 1858 on the 1870 census and 12 Oct 1857 on his death record
and
2) son Robert's birth, 1862, according to the census.

Mary Isabella (Barclay) Stevenson was an active member of the First Reformed Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, according to her obituary.
