Hello again.

I found Elizabeth Greenwood and Isaac Wilson Lawrence under Cheshire Marriage Licence Bonds and Allegations. This is dated 21 June 1866.

James Bimson initially gives consent as father of Elizabeth Greenwood, however, it is crossed out and it states below it:

"Elizabeth Greenwood hath no lawful father living or guardian of her person lawfully appointed or mother living and unmarried or guardian of her person appointed by the Court of Chancery and having authority to consent to this marriage"

Issac Wilson Lawrence signature below.

The image is available at Find My Past UK.

I have a similar problem with a great-grandfather unknown ???

That's a good find. I don't understand the bit about mother not living as her mother was still alive in 1881.

Looks as if this could be your brick wall I'm afraid, as her father could be anyone!

I don't understand the legal significance, but the wording says "or mother living and unmarried". So if her mother was living but married then presumably she couldn't give consent for her daughter to marry. Don't ask me why!
