Patrick Perkins b. 3/3/1917

Hi,

I am trying to trace the birth record of my great uncle Patrick Perkins, who I understand was born on 3 March 1917, in Scotland (likely Glasgow).

His father was Pierce Perkins, but the mother's name is unknown to me. The birth doesn't appear to be listed on nrscotland.gov.uk, not can I find it on findmypast.

Any suggestions as to how I can obtain the birth record or at least find out the mother's name?

The place to look for Scottish bmds, and other genealogical records, is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

Births less than 100 years ago can't be viewed, though, and are not yet searchable.  Once the record is released from its embargo in due course you will be able to order a paper copy.

Well I don't know if this is relevant but there is a death registered for a Patrick Perkins in the June quarter of 1989 birth date 3.3.1917

Death is registered in Chatham. 

I couldn't see a relevant birth on free bmd.

Thank you - yes I have that, that is indeed the Patrick Perkins I refer too. It's the birth cert is the holy grail!

I can't see a birth on Scotlands People.   Were his parents married - so he might have been registered under his mother's surname??

No, there weren't married, but he was cared for by his father. I also assume now he must have been registered under his mother's name.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a facility on the Scottish GRO site so search for 'Patrick's' born 3/3/17. I will call them this morning to see if they can be of any more help.

I must say, I can't easily see any record of a Pierce Perkins in Scotland at the right sort of time.  Are you sure about the father's name?  Might he have been Irish instead?

Did he marry as Patrick J Perkins in Woolwich in 1950, to Ann Hanly?  If so the marriage certificate should contain useful information, including his full middle name and his father's name and occupation.

may I suggest something - Patrick was born during WW1 1917   - so he probably served in the forces in WW2 - have you checked for a service record - or - do you have him in the 1939 records to see where he was born ??
