Thanks for the suggestion, but he was living in Ireland until 1950 so he wouldn't have served in WW2

Doesn't mean he couldn't have served in World War Two  :-\

There is a chance of course, but I would say it is unlikely given the Irish neutral stance in the war.
I will check this out however, thanks for the suggestion.

It looks like Pierce John Perkins was in the Navy in 1916  (born and died in Ireland which all seems to fit) - he's on a Royal Navy ship in 1901

He marries there in 1921, if he marries Patrick's mother then that would narrow down the surname you are looking at births for (unfortunately there are 2 men's names and 4 womens O'connor, Reid, Smith or Fitzgerald)

He gets detailed to Edinburgh on 27th May 1915 (his seaman's record is on ancestry) - was hoping it mentioned a child and mother's name but no luck

Pierce J. Perkins, hotel proprietor of Woodenbridge Co. Wicklow, widower, son of John Perkins a clerk, married 29 Mar.1921 to Annie Smith (nee Fitzgerald). One of the witnesses was a Mary Perkins.

Thanks Iolaus and Aghadowey. Unfortunately Anne Smith, his wife of 1921, is not the mother of Patrick :(

Yes, I know all that - 1921 was his second marriage. The key blank I have is the birth cert for Patrick Perkins
