Thomas LACEY, born c1833, Gloucesetershire (Cheltenham?)
« on: Tuesday 10 January 17 20:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

2017 brings a slight mystery 8)

When Thomas Lacey was released on licence from Parkhurst Prison on 14/06/1854 he confirmed he was going to his brother in Birmingham......he had initially been sentenced to 10 years transportation on 03/07/1849, but this was later commuted to imprisonment.  His occupation on sentence was a "Collector of Ashes". Some of his prison documents stated that his parents lived at 3 Jersey Street, Cheltenham, that is, sometime between 1849 and 1854.

Sadly I have no idea who his parents or brother were.   And research has not uncovered any likely candidates for the family nor Thomas LACEY.  One possibility, discarded, was a Professor of Music from Cheltenham who migrated to Brighton.

So if SKS can offer any suggestions I would be delighted ::)

For the moment,

BAC3

Good Evening keyboard86 and Mabel Bagshawe and thank you,

Sorry, I should have mentioned also discarding the "LAREY" family as they had moved to Wiltshire.

The Henry LACEY, widower, family has definite possibilities, except for the brother aspect. The one prospect, Michael, is only 10 in 1851 and would be 14 at the most in 1854 to be seemingly "on his own" at such a young age.   But, of course, they grew up far quicker in the early Victorian era and I suppose Birmingham, the centre of great development at the time, would have been a magnet of temptation ;D

For now,
