Richard Evans
« on: Thursday 12 January 17 18:35 GMT (UK) »
Another of my Evans' from Overton Flintshire,Richard born in c 1849 is living in the 1901 Census in Preston Gubbals Shropshire with a Wife Elizabeth and children, very possibly twins William and Sarah E Evans. Both children  are said to have been born in St Alkmounds Shropshire, both given as 20 years old.

Again I'm trying to find a marriage for Richard and Elizabeth but don't know her maiden name?

Regards
William Russell Jones.

Using GRO the twins Sarah E and William's birth record shows their mother's maiden name as Griffiths.

Following on from this,it appears that the Sarah Ellen daughter of Richard was to marry a Thomas Roster at Atcham in 1909 and went on to have three children with him. However it also appears the the Thomas Roster was to die before 1916 as Sarah Ellen re-marries to a John Davies at Atcham.Census entries give this Thomas as born in Shrewsbury in 1871,I'm not finding a death for him though?

Perhaps this is Thomas' death recorded in GRO War deaths (1914 - 1921)-

Thomas Roster
Death year - 1915
Service number - 6838
Rank   - Private
Regiment - Shropshire Light Infantry
Vol I.26 Page 81

This would then mean Sarah Ellen was free to remarry.

On 11 Aug 1915 Sarah Ellen (widow) is awarded £2 8s 11d.
There is then an amendment where Sarah E Davies is awarded £3

Just another confirmation that we have the correct Thomas Roster.

Many thanks JJ,I really ignored the possibility of him being a casualty of World War One as he was a little old.
