Charles Alfred Rudge supposed drowned 1875,this is also on the grave stone. His wife Fanny Jane is also written on the stone but it is not clear if she also drowned at this time. There is only the date 1875 .I find no other death, or remarriage for her. On the UK death at sea thereare also 6 other people missing on the ship Fair Rover on this day.
Would there be any newspaper reports on this event perhaps.?

I would imagine of there is a gravestone, then at there is a grave, so at least one of them would be buried there, even if there is mention "in memory" of the other who was lost at sea and therefore not actually buried there.  If both were lost at sea - who is in the grave?

FindMyPast has a female Rudge no first name or age given who drowned by wreck on 22.8.1875.  The vessel was Fair Rover, number 56292.  There is no mention of a man with a surname Rudge on that list, but on a GRO Marine Deaths Indices list a Charles Alfred Rudge age 26 is shown as died at sea, vessel Fair Rover (ref no.49) and beneath his name is (female) Rudge, no age given, (ref no. 82) died at sea vessel Fair Rover.

Lloyd's List of 29 Dec 1875 has a notice asking for info on the "Fair Rover, Rudge, Baltimore to Newry reported to have sailed from Fortress Monroe on 24 Aug last. So Rudge was her captain. Still looking for more reports.....

ADDED~: Dundee Courier 31 Dec 1875 refers to the Fair Rover not having been reported since 24 Aug & believed to have sunk with Captain Rudge & the crew of ten men; no mention of a wife aboard.

Lloyd's Captains Register Held by London Metropolitan Archives should have details of his seagoing career from the time he obtained his Mates Certificate.
It would not be uncommon for Captains wives to sail with their husbands especially newly weds.

An unrelated request;
I have searched FindMyPast in the past for deaths at sea, but not found anything of interest.
However, after reading these posts, I have searched again, and found a potential death that is of interest to me.
The ship was the 'Calliope' 25238 the year 1871. Port of departure 'Hammett St'; description of voyage E J. from BT153
How do I find out any more information from Lloyds list of 1871?
(A search on the internet came up with 2 possible wrecks a) it was on its way back from calcutta, or b), that it was wrecked on a sand bank outside of Liverpool Port.

What I would like to know is
a) An earlier post mentioned Lloyds list; so how does one find anything from this?
b) Where is Hammet St, and what does EJ mean
c) how do I order a death certificate from this?

I have been looking for the death if my Great Grandfather, who is rumoured to have died at sea. This is the right last name and age, but wrong initial, but it has occurred to me that he may have given a false name.
I should add, that so far, no deaths have been found anywhere, so this is just a remote possibility at present.
