Hi

By 1916 both would have been 35yrs old.  If Edith was born as Rodgers/Rodges/Rogers - could she have been married previously in which case any marriage to West would be under her married name?

How do you know when and where they married?  Were there any children from the marriage?

Do you have Edith on any census from 1881-1911?  What was her fathers name and occupation?

Did you notice that somebody has notified a correction to that 1901 entry saying the surname is Hodges?

Also - that Edith is actually 23

I think that person's name is actually Edith HODGES.

Do you have the birth cert for William born 1916 or how have you arrived at his parent's names?

Maureen

Sorry,Carole-overlapping. :)

The 1901 entry you found shows father Charles as a coffee stall keeper

That Edith was definitely Hodges and married 1904 to Charles Henry Best.  Her father was Charles - coffee stall keeper as per marriage cert

Where do Edith and William fit into your FH?

Are you descended from their son William or from another child?

the west family  are related to my wife, she has a cousin also called william west whos father was william west born 26th april 1916 and died september 2004 in Kensington and chelsea.it was he who gave his grandmothers maiden name as rodges.
I have the birth cert for him showing edith west formerly rodges issued kensington south BXCF 665482.this also shows the father as william west.
does this help.
