John McGrory born in Ireland about 1870/71?

Hello,

I im attempting to trace where and when my great grandfather John McGrory was born in Ireland.

1893 has John McGrory who is iliterate marrying Helen McCrystal in Linlithgow Scotland and has John 23 so born about 1870 with Parents recorded as Barney McGrory and Catherine McGrory (McCall)

1901 census Scotland has John McGrory aged 30 living in Linlithgow with his family and recorded as born in Ireland about 1871.

1911 census Scotland has no trace of John McGrory and family

Death register for John McGrory in Coatbridge Scotland has him aged 54 so born about 1875 with parents now recorded by my grandfather James McGrory as John McGrory And Ellen McCabe.

The only records i can find online loosely matching the details given are in the Irish Catholic Parish baptismal records with a John McCrory (not McGrory) born 06/11/1864 to Bernard McCrory and Catherine McCrory "McCall" Lisban, Benburb, Clonfeacle.

Edited to add: How confident are you that the person you found in the death register is the same person? If confident, the default assumption should be that the marriage information on parents is more accurate.

The address for the above 1878 birth was Brooke Street, Dungannon.  Just to note that a Bernard McCrory of 10 Brooke Street Dungannon died on 6 November 1893 with a reported age of 60, he was married, a bleacher, the informant was his son Bernard of the same address.

I think your grandfather James may have got confused when reporting his father's parents on the death register. At very least, he seems to have given his maternal grandmother's name for his dad's mother I think.

Following on from the above 1901 census return showing residence in Anne Street, this looks like Catherine McCrory junior marrying a cattle dealer John Carbery in 1901 (her father recorded as Bernard):

To try to find them in 1911, there is possibly at least one daughter Mary born c. 1906? Occasionally you might find a specific birth place in Ireland showing on the censuses. Hopefully, this could tie in with all the info that Gaffy has posted above.

There are two deaths showing on SP where the mother's maiden name is McCrystal:

Agnes McGrory, aged 87 died in 1983 in Coatbridge.
Mary McGrory, aged 76 died in 1982 in Airdrie.
